"This is the end result of all the bright lights... and the comp trips, of all the champagne... and free hotel suites,
and all the broads and all the booze. It's all been arranged just for us to get your money.
That's the truth about Las Vegas. We're the only winners. The players don't stand a chance. "

Guess the Las Vegas Casino #10

Parking garage and parking garage elevator of a major LV Strip property.  You would think this outfit would have some pride and respect for it's properties and address these problems.

You have just driven over 300 miles to Las Vegas.  You are excited about the trip.  You park your car in self parking.  You unload your luggage and head toward the main entrance to check in.  Then you are greeted by this mess.  Shameful...

Hint:  People who stay at this dump think they are staying at an "upscale" LV Strip property.

Tagging in stairwell

Elevator -- busted up ceiling with tagging.

Guess the Las Vegas Casino #9

This disgusting mess of cigs and ashes was there when I parked my car in the morning and was there when I left in the afternoon -- about 4 hours.  Not sure if this was a dump out from a car ashtray or someone went on a cig bender...

Hints:  Locals joint.   Not Boulder Station or Sam's Town.

Good luck.  JH

Just another day in LV...

Playing low stakes poker and this guy decides to show me a couple of bets he just made.  Yes, he bet $80k on the over for the Poinsettia Bowl tonight in San Diego...

Las Vegas Car of the Week #24

Not sure what brand/model this pick up is, but it sure has a "flashy" paint job...  I would comment on the ethnicity of the driver, but then @Neon would have another hissy fit...  Hint:  "Norteno" music was blasting out from the cab...

Las Vegas Smoker of the Week #20

Car smoker, near GVR, early evening, cig out the window as usual...

Crack Kills...

Just brutal...  Security should have been called...  To make matters worse he's bent over at that stupid wheel of misfortune which has some sick house edge of at least 20%.  If the Mirage had any decency they would remove this carnival attraction.

Las Vegas Car of the Week #23

1980's Buick or Olds lowrider.  Has the potential to be a Raider Nation show car...  All this junker needs is a big ass Raider sticker on the rear window!

I wonder what goes into the decision making process when leaving the car raised or lowered or just in a "normal" height position?  Maybe the owner was in a hurry and forgot the car was so jacked up like this?

The over/under for the Henderson Police Dept. to pull this ride over is 10 minutes if that.  Would be funny to roll this thing into the Wynn valet...

If I only had my camera...

This incident happened at the Mirage about a month ago.  For past few weeks I have been thinking about how best to describe what I witnessed, so bear with me...

First of all, I have a camera with me 99% of the time with me when I go out anywhere.  Either my point and shoot or my DSLR.  So, the one time I forget my camera I see what might be the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen since I have moved to Las Vegas.  I will do my best to describe what happened...

I get to the Mirage on a Friday night at around 6:30pm to play in their 7pm poker tournament.  I go buy in and since I have a few minutes to burn I stand by the roulette wheel in front of the cashiers cage and check out the scenery.  As usual, this part of the casino is very crowded with people gambling and people walking back and forth.  I am near the entrance to the Beatles Love show entrance.  For 7pm in Vegas the area is jam packed...

At this point I see this guy walking towards me about 75 yards away.  First of all let me describe this individual.  He looks like he's on the USA Olympic swim team.  He's about 25, 6-3, and completely ripped with a swimmer's body....  He so ripped that jaws are dropping on many women (many women with dudes, btw) So how do I know what this guy looked like?  Because this guy is walking through the Mirage wearing nothing but wearing those European "boy shorts" that gay guys like to prance around in.  That's all he's wearing...  He's barefoot to top it off.

But wait, there's more to the story...   This young man is incredibly drunk.  He cannot walk even close to straight.  He's staggering, he's bumping into people, and he's just totally wasted.  Of course he has a beer in his hand -- a nice 24oz can of something, Bud Light I think.

Now the for the best part: He's soaking wet, like he just stepped out the pool or hot tub.  So let's review what we are dealing with:  A dude completely drunk, about 25, ripped like a swimmer, wearing gay boy shorts, barefoot, soaking wet, totally wasted and walking through an upscale casino.

It gets better...  Two Mirage security guards see him and do nothing at all.  They just sit there laughing there asses off.  This dude proceeds to stagger through the casino until I can't see him anymore.  During this entire time not one Mirage security guard or manager could be bothered to approach him and find out what the hell is going on.

I know it's Vegas and crazy shit happens all the time.  But this one takes the prize as the most ridiculous thing I have seen since I have lived here.

More Messes at the Mirage...

Check out this mess at the Mirage.  It looks like someone just dumped out their ice cooler on the way out of the hotel.  This mess was located at the top of the 4th floor escalator that leads to the access bridge to the parking garage.  It just seems like way too much ice for a spilled drink.

And this place is supposed to be some high end rug joint?  Really?  Once again, tip of the cap to MGM Resorts for running the joint like it's Circus Circus.

Guess the Las Vegas Casino #8

Another disgusting mess of cigs in an ashtray.  I can't recall seeing anything this bad.  I don't even think the El Cortez or Gold Spike would tolerate a mess like this.

Hint:  This a locals hotel that supposedly prides itself on cleanliness and customer service.

Really? The Mirage hits a new low...

How far the mighty have fallen....

Check out this kid skateboarding through The Mirage.  This is the corridor with all the fancy stores on the way to the pool.  My video clip shows only a small portion of this kid's activity.  He skateboarded up and down the corridor for at least 5 minutes while I was there, including losing control of his board and almost hitting a patron.  Not once did I see security or anyone from the Mirage tell this kid to stop.  The Mirage was his own personal skate park.

To think the once mighty and proud Mirage has now sunk to this level -- that a kid can skateboard through the joint without as much as even a warning.  Really?  Steve Wynn would be mortified...

Nice job MGM Resorts International...

Las Vegas Car of the Week #22

Check out this beast rolling near the LV Strip...  I believe this is an early to mid 80's Lincoln Towne Car.  Blue paint, blue vinyl top, white leather interior.  Whatta beast of a car -- and looks to be in excellent shape also!  Note all windows down -- temp. was 105f at the time.  Imagine this monster rear ending a Prius...  Ugly!

Guess the Las Vegas Casino #7

This a Strip hotel, not Circus Circus or IP.  Good luck...

This disgusting mess was not cleaned the entire time I was in the casino -- almost 3 hours.

Inventory: 4 cigs, 2 cigars, broken glass...

How far the mighty have fallen...

Las Vegas Abandoned Construction Site #11

Map picture

“Canyon Edge” is one of the more unusual abandoned construction sites I have come across since moving to the Las Vegas area.  Location is about a quarter of mile north of the intersection of Horizon Ridge Pkwy. and Green Valley Ranch Pkwy. in Henderson. This is a collection of “single family” homes of about half which were completed.  The rest of home sites have never been built on.

I would imagine that these homes were selling for well over $1 million dollars before the crash, now the the entire project sits empty with not one residence occupied.  I will give some credit to the bank that owns this property – they have the place surrounded by a chain link fence and there is 24 hour security protecting the place.  I know this because I got chased away from the property one afternoon while trying to get some close in photos.

These residences are modern looking and appear to be of high end construction.   I just don’t see how they are ever going to get sold, even at a huge discount.  Who wants to buy a home like this in a neighborhood that is half finished?  I have a feeling these places are going to sit empty for many years.

Here are are a few photos the project.  Though the homes appear to be finished and occupied, all these homes are empty.

Closed? Really?

Here we ago again with urban blight in Las Vegas.  This location is on Tropicana about 2 miles east of the Strip.  What I don't understand is why after a building is demolished, the sign of the former business is allowed to remain standing?  In this case the sign is a target for vandals and taggers -- thereby causing further blight in the area.

Really?  "The Hop" is closed?  No shit.  Ridiculous.  FYI -- this land is now being used by car washers and street vendors to ply their various trades.  Nice.

Las Vegas Smoker of the Week #18

1:00 pm cig break in front of Casino Royale.  Butt soon to be tossed on the ground.  Welcome to Las Vegas...

Las Vegas Car of the Week #21

This junker -- I think it's a Chevy Caprice was actually sitting in the Aria valet waiting to be parked.  I am surprised Aria even lets such junky ride be allowed into it's valet.  Then let the car sit there for an hour waiting to be parked?  Really?  How far the mighty have fallen...

FYI  -- That's an Encore Rolls Limo that just dropped off Mr. and Mrs. Chen from Taiwan at Aria.  This it what greets them as they enter the joint.  Nice...
